The Auddino Family has been providing delicious baked goods to Columbus’ residents and businesses since 1968, when they opened their first store in the Linden area, near E. 11th Ave. That location has been going strong ever since, and is still open today to customers who shop for donuts, breads and pastries. It also serves as their distribution facility to many pizza shops and other restaurants in Columbus who have been using Auddino’s dough and rolls for decades.
Recently, Auddino’s opened up a second location on the west-side of Columbus, in the Mill Run neighborhood of Hilliard. The new shop exposes customers who may not be familiar with the Auddino’s brand of baked goods, to the wonders of a well-established, local bakery. They are stationed in an old Fuddrucker’s burger joint, which has been pretty much unused for several years.
In addition to the bakery, the new store offers up the typical menu of a trendy cafe, with breakfast & lunch sandwiches, soups and salads, but they’ve also turned it up a notch by adding their pizzas, subs, focaccia, and paninis. They have a pretty decent coffee station where you can order your standard cup-o-joe, espressos, cappuccinos and more. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to try any of the cafe or coffee options on this particular trip. We came for the sweet stuff.
They’ve kept plenty of the seating area available for those whom wish to eat inside the cafe. The larger section of the dining room is moderately decorated in neutral colors and simple wall-hangings, while the front of the house is sectioned off and is lavished with brighter walls and booths. But honestly, Auddino’s isn’t the kind of place you come to for the decor…..
It’s the kind of place you come to for decadent sweets!! I took the liberty of snapping several photos of the cases and cases of donuts, muffins, cookies, biscotti, cakes, cream horns and more.
Ok, I’ll stop talking now, and just let you enjoy the scenery….
It can be a little overwhelming once you’re inside, looking at all of these wonderful treats. Thankfully, the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable of their products. There were several ladies behind the counter who offered assistance, but who were also willing to let us take a few minutes to browse before we made our choices.
Auddino’s also has racks of their famous bread and rolls that you can purchase to enjoy at home as well…
We picked a box full based on some recommendations from the lady who was helping us. The prices were a little higher than what you would expect to pay at Tim Horton’s down the street, but what you are paying for is the quality and freshness that only a local, hometown favorite bakery like Auddino’s can provide.
The custard-filled long john
Maple-iced, glazed twist
The strawberry and/or cherry crullers
This is one of their famous pastries – the fried, glazed croissant, or “doughsant”, which comes in both large and small sizes. To be honest, I wasn’t too sure I would like this one. I’m not a huge fan of croissants, but after one bite, I can say I am definitely a fan of the doughsant!! It was buttery, flaky, sweet and melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
We also had to pick up a couple of their famous cannolis.
If it’s pastries and cakes you’re looking for, Auddino’s will definitely have what you want. Thanks to this new shop, they can now also fill your desire for a light, relaxing meal and a fancy hot beverage, too. I hope this location does well, because it really gives the neighborhood something that it was missing – a unique, hometown-feel bakery that isn’t just another chain franchise. And that is something I will always support.
