Two of my favorite things to do are travel, and have a good breakfast. And when I get to do both of those things together, well, that’s just a great morning all-around. While it may not be a grand adventure, I do consider driving to Marysville “travelling”, since it isn’t where I live. And the fact is, there are many awesome little diners and family restaurants scattered throughout the counties that surround Franklin, that are definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area. We recently visited a restaurant that was originally suggested on my first appearance on Marysville’s QT 1270 AM morning radio show, Goodies-N-More in downtown Marysville.
Goodies-N-More is your typical, small-town restaurant. It’s located just off the main drag through town, on a small side street, and shares a tiny shopping plaza with a Dollar General store. Inside is plenty of seating on generic restaurant dining furniture, and there are two or three hard-working servers pouring warm, “diner brown” for their regular customers.
The walls are decorated with lots of mass-produced, country-style restaurant decor such as lots of little signs with cute sayings, but there are also a couple of unique items like this Marysville village.
Another great trademark of an authentic, small-town restaurant is the community advertisement place mat. It’s great to see local businesses supporting each other.
We started our meal with some hot beverages to warm ourselves up from the rainy, Fall morning weather. This extra-large cup of hot cocoa was rich and chocolaty, and earned them extra points for the big dollup of whipped cream on top!
The menu at Goodies-N-More was pretty basic and strait-forward. Several egg combos, omelets and carbs such as pancakes were offered, but nothing was too fancy. The Ham & Cheese omelet ($5.75) was a safe pick, and was your standard fold-over, filled with plenty of meat & cheese.
The Western Omelet ($6.20) was similar to the ham & cheese in style, but added a couple of other ingredients. Diced ham, onions, green peppers and cheddar cheese were all folded inside a warm egg blanket. It was served with fried potatoes & toast.
I ordered the Stick To Your Ribs Breakfast ($7.95), which consisted of two eggs, fried potatoes, breakfast meat and either pancakes, French toast or fried mush. The eggs were cooked well, the bacon was good, and the potatoes were soft and seasoned well. It was a good plate of basic breakfast fare.
I opted for the fried mush on the side, since it’s not something I get a chance to eat very often. It was deep-fried to a golden crisp, was hot and soft on the inside, and was served with butter and maple syrup packets. It was a nice change from the usual combos that are offered most places.
Goodies-N-More proudly serves Velvet Ice Cream, which is a local product from Utica, Ohio, for dessert, and this little station in the corner of the restaurant is one of the most popular spots in the room, and for good reason.
This restaurant is another example of a great, local establishment serving basic breakfast options. It’s good for what it is, and is worth a stop if you’re in the area and hungry. The staff is friendly and the space itself is bright and clean. Plus they have ice cream…and who doesn’t like that??
Goodies-N-More is located at 205 E. 8th Street, Marysville, OH 43040. They’re open Monday – Saturday, 7:00 am – 8:00 pm, and Sunday, 8:00 am – 3:00 pm. If you’d like more info, you can check out their Facebook page here.
